Practice Team Leader
I completed my undergraduate training at University of Nottingham and graduated with an MPharm in 2015. I completed my pre-registration training in community pharmacy and qualified as a Pharmacist in 2016. I moved to general practice in 2020 as I was keen to develop my role in patient care. I am involved in medication reviews, hypertension reviews, audits, quality improvement, monitoring medication and ensuring safe prescribing.
In March 2020, whilst under the support of WMC and within the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, I started a degree at The University of Derby to become a Registered Nursing Associate, which I achieved First Class Honours. Within my role at WMC I provide services such as Phlebotomy, blood pressures, ECG, Diabetic Foot checks and some injections. Now that I am qualified, I am looking to gain extra training so I can provide more services.
After working in various NHS and private care settings for many years I was seconded, as a mature student, to do my Adult Nurse RCN training at Chesterfield Royal Hospital through the University of Derby. Once qualified I worked as Staff Nurse on a surgical ward at CNDRH before moving to Leeds where I worked as a Practice Nurse for over 12 years. As a treatment room nurse I am experienced in carrying out dressings, blood tests, children and adult vaccines, smears, ECG's, and other routine health promotion and monitoring. Having recently returned to Derbyshire, I am happy to get the opportunity to join WMC team providing personal, evidence based care to the local community.
I have been working as a Practice Nurse for around 14 years. I have worked in several Practices during this time and have gained qualifications in most aspects of Practice Nursing such as long term chronic disease, childhood immunisation, wound care and cytology. I particularly like Health Promotion in Practice Nursing and this has led me to have a specialist interest in Diabetes Care. I enjoy advising and helping patients with aspects of healthy living such as diet and exercise to improve their diabetes control and quality of life.
I qualified as RGN in 1990 working initially in hospital based Renal Care and ITU / CICU environments before transitioning to Practice Nursing in 2003, subsequently working in a number of GP Practices and gaining relevant qualifications and experience in most aspects of Practice Nursing and long-term disease management including Asthma, COPD, Diabetes, Heart Failure & Secondary Care and Women’s Health. I have a particular interest in Respiratory Medicine and held the position of Specialist Respiratory Nurse for three years, providing a support service to GP Practices throughout Northern England and Northern Ireland, and more recently in a community-based role. I feel a real sense of reward when listening to and working with patients and colleagues with the aim of increasing understanding, improving health outcomes and quality of life.
The Practice Manager is involved in managing all of the business aspects of the practice such as making sure that the right systems are in place to provide a high quality of patient care, human resources, finance, patient safety, premises and equipment and information technology. The Practice Manager supports the GPs and other medical professionals with delivering patient services and also helps to develop extended services to enhance patient care.
